On the afternoon of August 6th, the China-Malawi International (Malawi) Special Economic Zone and Financial Support for Investment Forum was held in Ningbo. More than 160 business leaders from both within and outside the province listened to a detailed introduction on investment promotion by the Malawi Investment and Trade Center. A number of cooperation projects were also signed on the spot.

The event is jointly organized by the Malawi Investment Authority and Xidian International Stock Exchange, with the Embassy of Malawi in China as the co-organizer. This event aims to promote economic cooperation between Malawi and Ningbo, China. The relevant person in charge of the Malawi Investment and Trade Center highlighted the favorable investment environment of the local market potential, natural resources, policy advantages and demographic dividend.

The China-Malawi International (Malawi) Special Economic Zone jointly established by China and Malawi provides a good platform for cooperation between enterprises of the two places. Malawi has huge potential for development in agriculture, industry and mining, energy, healthcare and other fields. For instance, in terms of agriculture, the local area boasts vast and fertile land. However, unlike China, the level of agricultural science and technology there is relatively low. The techniques for fertilizer and water irrigation, planting, harvesting and storage are rather traditional, resulting in relatively low production efficiency. Therefore, this is also a market opportunity. If Chinese enterprises invest in Malawi and bring advanced agricultural technologies there, they will soon win the market.

In addition, in terms of industrial and mining resources, hydropower and other energy sources, the local area is rich in resources and has a large space for development and utilization. The population is young and full of vitality. Therefore, whoever invests first will be the first to enjoy the development dividends. Moreover, Malawi enjoys a unique urban environment. The water quality of its lakes and rivers is crystal clear. The favorable geographical location brings a pleasant climate, making it very livable. The relevant person in charge of Zhongma (Zhejiang) Enterprise Service Co., LTD., which organized this event, said that Ningbo, as a major manufacturing city, relying on the natural deep-water port of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, has a good complementarity with Malawi in terms of social and economic development. Some products may have a saturated market and a small profit margin in Ningbo, but they might still be scarce in Malawi. This presents a great opportunity for Ningbo enterprises to expand overseas.

It is understood that over 160 enterprises participated in the event on that day, mainly representatives of outstanding enterprises from Ningbo and some representatives of high-quality domestic enterprises. At the event site, a number of outstanding enterprises, including Weifeng Times (Ningde) Technology Co., LTD., Yien International Consulting Group, Guohao Law Firm, Ningbo Dongfang Holiday International Travel Service Co., LTD., and Ningbo Weixia Decoration Co., LTD., signed cooperation agreements with Malawi. The entire event concluded successfully in a productive and enthusiastic atmosphere, and also laid a solid foundation for further exchanges and cooperation between the two sides in the future.
